We were awarded the contract to undertake the flood alleviation works at Billinton Drive after the local council experienced severe flood damage to nearby houses. The works included desilting the existing attenuation pond, re-profiling the river banks and fitting a galvanised trash screen with a concrete support cast that contains, wing walls and over flow pipes. While we were carrying out the works, a temporary diversion was built to redirect the flow of the river during the construction phase. We also installed a penstock and stop logs in front of the trash screen that can redirect flows into the pond during extreme weather and when water levels are high. A silt trap was put in place and reinforced with sheet piling and gabion scour protection was installed to the banks to prevent erosion. An oak bridge was designed, built and installed by us, together with footpaths around the pond.
